    Ever since people have been exercising, there have been Exercise Bikes. Today there are so many different type, styles and features it can get a little overwhelming.

    So here is an overview of the options you have available to you when deciding on the most suitable bike for your needs.

    One of the key advantages of an Exercise Bike over other types of fitness equipment is its compact nature. This make it easy to move and store when it is not in use.

    Another of the Exercise Bikes key attributes is its ease of use. For one you are sitting down and have complete control over the level of exertion.

    There are various forms of mechanisms that are used to generate the resistance; Permanent Magnetic, Electro Magnetic and friction resistance. The intricacies of each of these mechanisms are explained in more detail on the main Exercise Bike page. So let’s look at the various types of Exercise Bikes.

    Upright Exercise Bikes 

    An Upright Bike is simply that. It has the user in an upright position as you would be on a road bike. It is the most popular style.

    Recumbent Exercise bike 

    The Recumbent Bike has the user sitting in a seated position with full back support and the pedals out in front. This is by far the most comfortable way to exercise. Very comfortable but still with the capacity of a serious cardio workout.

    Spin Cycle  

    The Spin Cycle is a version of the upright bike, but with a very heavy fly wheel up to 14kgs. The purpose of this heavy fly wheel is to capture the energy of the user and give the bike the feel of a real bike on the road. These bikes tend to have very little in the way of console displays and programs. They are also used extensively in most gyms in groups for “Spin Classes”.
